Yes, you saw right. Today is Handshake Day. This really made me think. I’ve always had such respect for someone that could look me in the eye, grab my hand firmly and greet me with a heartfelt howdy do. It’s just respectful. Have you noticed that the handshake is just one more manner that is quickly dying? When I am introduced to someone, I automatically greet them with a firm handshake and a smile. Today, some people actually look stunned when I extend my hand. The upcoming generation cringes at the thought of a handshake. How old fashioned! It saddens me to see some of the most simple acts of kindness and respect slip away before my eyes. It’s not too late to stop it!
Today, on Handshake Day, take some time to teach your children how to give a good old handshake. Greet passersby with an extended hand and a smile yourself. Let’s bring back the art of looking at each other, shaking hands, smiling and actually establishing a connection with each other. Happy Handshake Day everyone! If I could, I’d shake each of your hands….wait, I’ll do it right now…I’m actually shaking your invisible hand and smiling your way. That’s quite a grip you got there! 😉 Enjoy the day that is today and use your manners!
a good handshake is worth its weight in gold – I stopped going to a dentist because he had a wimpy handshake; and I hate it when people crush your hand – a nice firm handshake is something that should be taught–just firm enough–not bone crushing
I could not agree more!
My girls have been taught the art of the handshake along with how to introduce people. I think its important!
I think it’s sad when people look confused or uncomfortable at my outstretched hand. I’m not asking for a stranger-danger hug, just a handshake. Maybe there’s no app for that? Haha. Sad though.
