I Love Me My Thrift Stores

Yesterday, I decided to take a walk downtown. It seems as if someone, somehow has stolen all of my socks. Seriously. I have two pairs left. Where in the world do socks go? I keep thinking they’ll show up, but nope. No socks! So I finally got tired of washing socks every other day and went to get some new pairs.

Anyway….a trip downtown almost always means a quick stop at the local Salvation Army store. I made a bee line to the rear of the store where the household and kitchen items are located. It’s my favorite corner! I immediately noticed a box of canning lids with bands. Mine! Underneath it was another dozen. Mine! On a shelf above them, this wonderful, big box grater that has a sliding bottom. It simply couldn’t have ever been used, it was in great shape. Mine! I checked out, doling out a whopping $2.12 for my treasures and my day was made. The canning lids will of course be put to good use. The grater…I’m not sure if I’m going to use it for it’s original purpose or if I’m going to make a kitchen nightlight out of it. Time will tell! I sure do love me my thrift stores!

About finefrugality

I am a wife, mother, business owner, farmer, foster parent, retired probation officer and so much more. :-) I love to save money any way I can. I just don’t see the sense in handing my cash over to someone else when I don’t have to. I coupon, I grow and can food, I reuse and repurpose items, I scour thrift stores and during the warmer months, my Saturday mornings consist of yard sales and our local farmer’s market with my husband. I have organized local meetings which include coupon swaps, barter clubs and swap meets. Here is where I begin to share this life with the rest of the world. This is Fine Frugality. Because being frugal is not only fine. It is FINE.
