A Friendly Photo Shoot

A friend and I, who both have the amateur photo bug inside of us, have decided to take weekly treks around the area to take some photos. Last night, we traveled to Centralia, Pennsylvania. If you are not familiar, Centralia is a former coal mining town that is now almost non-existent due to underground fires. The government ended up buying most of the homes and taking them down. There are a handful of residents that will not leave and opted not to be a part of the buyout. If you’d like to read a little more about Centralia, this is a great site for information.

We visited three cemeteries and one of the most obvious fire sites. Here are some of the sites we saw:

The main fire area:

These streets used to be lined with homes:

And this was just fun:

What a great night out that cost us nothing but the gas to get there. We plan on doing this once a week…it’s a fabulous outlet.

About finefrugality

I am a wife, mother, business owner, farmer, foster parent, retired probation officer and so much more. :-) I love to save money any way I can. I just don’t see the sense in handing my cash over to someone else when I don’t have to. I coupon, I grow and can food, I reuse and repurpose items, I scour thrift stores and during the warmer months, my Saturday mornings consist of yard sales and our local farmer’s market with my husband. I have organized local meetings which include coupon swaps, barter clubs and swap meets. Here is where I begin to share this life with the rest of the world. This is Fine Frugality. Because being frugal is not only fine. It is FINE.
