Vanilla Infused Sugar Anyone?

I recently made a few jars of Vanilla Infused Sugar to give as gifts. Don’t tell my mom, but she’s getting one in her Mother’s Day basket. 🙂 Anyway, it’s so easy to create, but makes such a nice impact for the recipient. Here’s all you will need:

(This is to make one jar ~ obviously it can be doubled or tripled to suit your needs)

  • 1 pint size mason jar (or other pretty airtight container)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 whole vanilla bean

Fill your jar with one cup of sugar. Cut the vanilla bean in half and then slice down the bean halves lengthwise in order to split open the bean. Scrape out the seeds. Add half of the seeds to your first cup of sugar. Mix well, then add the second cup of sugar into the jar. Add the remaining half of vanilla seeds and mix well again.

Take the bean halves and bury them into the sugar. Seal the jar with a lid. You are done! Let the vanilla infuse for approximately one week before use in order to get full flavor.

Yes, this will add some extraordinary flavor to coffee, but think what it will do to cereal, oatmeal and baked goods! Go for it! Homemade love, pure and simple.

About finefrugality

I am a wife, mother, business owner, farmer, foster parent, retired probation officer and so much more. :-) I love to save money any way I can. I just don’t see the sense in handing my cash over to someone else when I don’t have to. I coupon, I grow and can food, I reuse and repurpose items, I scour thrift stores and during the warmer months, my Saturday mornings consist of yard sales and our local farmer’s market with my husband. I have organized local meetings which include coupon swaps, barter clubs and swap meets. Here is where I begin to share this life with the rest of the world. This is Fine Frugality. Because being frugal is not only fine. It is FINE.
