Simple Cleaner for Refrigerators

It always makes me cringe when I hear of someone cleaning the inside of their refrigerator with glass cleaner, household cleanser or even powdered cleaners. There is no way that I would ever put something as toxic as household cleaners in the same place that I store my food! Here is a simple solution that you can use to clean and freshen your refrigerator without nasty chemicals.

Simply put equal amounts of salt and baking soda onto a damp sponge and wipe down your refrigerator. The salt and baking soda act as mild abrasives to help lift stubborn spills and the baking soda will absorb odors. Make sure your sponge is damp enough, this will help dissolve the mixture as you clean. If you do end up with a residue, simply rinse your sponge and wipe again. Your fridge will be clean, odor free and most importantly…safe!

About finefrugality

I am a wife, mother, business owner, farmer, foster parent, retired probation officer and so much more. :-) I love to save money any way I can. I just don’t see the sense in handing my cash over to someone else when I don’t have to. I coupon, I grow and can food, I reuse and repurpose items, I scour thrift stores and during the warmer months, my Saturday mornings consist of yard sales and our local farmer’s market with my husband. I have organized local meetings which include coupon swaps, barter clubs and swap meets. Here is where I begin to share this life with the rest of the world. This is Fine Frugality. Because being frugal is not only fine. It is FINE.

the tip on cleaning the refrigerater is exactly what i use. if there is still an odor, go over all surfaces with white vinegar.

when i was first married, i decided to clean the frig using white vinegar and baking soda. filled a deep bowl with the vinegar then added the baking soda. need i say more. what a mess, bubbles and foam all over. when i told my mother, she laughed till she cried. after i had the mess all cleaned up, and threw a wet sponge at my husband for laughing at me, i cried, then i laughed. still laughing at that pitiful scene all these years later.
