I know the things that make me smile. I know what makes me happy. I try to adapt my surroundings to include those things strategically placed in my home, my environment, my life. We all place family photographs where we can see them. The same idea applies to so many other things. We fill our home with plants and decorative items that we have chosen because they have touched us in some way.
Why not expand that idea? Do you love colorful scarves? Then don’t just shove them in a drawer. Display them, cover pillows with them or sew them together to make a great window valance.
Do you collect stamps? Don’t put them in a book. Frame them, display them under a glass tabletop or create a great photo frame out of them. You get the idea.
Do you love nature? Then don’t block it with curtains. Use window flower boxes, plant a small herb garden on your window sill or use one of these suction cupped bird feeders to watch nature on the other side of a piece of glass. This one happens to be on the window in my computer room. We can also see it from the kitchen. It is such a joy to watch all of the different birds that come to feed, to listen to them sing in the morning and even to watch them fight over a prime spot in the feeder.
Whatever makes you happy, brings you a smile, or fills you with joy…surround yourself with those things! It can be accomplished in so many fun and frugal ways. YOU create your own happiness and this is just one small way for you to do so.
