March Foodie Photo-A-Day Challenge ~ Kitchen Gadget

There’s nothing like a good zester! I love whipping that baby out and going to town on an orange, lemon, fresh ginger or even hard cheeses. The aroma when you’re zesting citrus is simply amazing. It makes me want to dab some of those tiny scraps of delightfulness onto my wrists and carry the scent with me all day.

You can use citrus zest in so many ways, not just in recipes. Add the zest of an orange to a hot bath and let the oils help nourish your skin. Add some citrus zest when making homemade candles, or simply sprinkle them on to the tarts in your tart warmer to help revitalize the scent. Add them to potpourri, especially right before you have guests coming.

Of course, you can add them to any dish to give the recipe a boost of tropical feel. Add zest to yogurt, fruit salad, salad dressing or marinades. You can freeze your zest if you can’t use it right away too. Whatever you do, don’t wast all of those delicious flavors and yummy scents!

About finefrugality

I am a wife, mother, business owner, farmer, foster parent, retired probation officer and so much more. :-) I love to save money any way I can. I just don’t see the sense in handing my cash over to someone else when I don’t have to. I coupon, I grow and can food, I reuse and repurpose items, I scour thrift stores and during the warmer months, my Saturday mornings consist of yard sales and our local farmer’s market with my husband. I have organized local meetings which include coupon swaps, barter clubs and swap meets. Here is where I begin to share this life with the rest of the world. This is Fine Frugality. Because being frugal is not only fine. It is FINE.
