As I was getting something out of one of the kitchen cupboards, I accidentally dropped a pack of graham crackers. We don’t use or eat graham crackers much, so I end up shuffling them around in order to get to other things. When the pack dropped almost all of the crackers broke.
My initial thought was “Well, those are garbage now”, but then the frugalite inside of me took over. Out came the rolling pin, an empty bread bag and a jar. I put the crackers into the bag and crushed them with the rolling pin.
Into the jar they went to be preserved. There was only one problem. There was no way I was going to use them any time soon. I’m not a huge baker and I use graham crackers for two purposes: to serve with pumpkin or apple dip and for crusts on the two occasions a year that I really bake. Lightbulb! My daughter’s birthday (and Easter) are coming up. Her favorite dessert is cheesecake. So into the freezer the jar went, nestled next to the chocolate fortune cookies.
And that’s where they will stay until I bring myself to bake that cheesecake. Another item that I don’t have to purchase due to frugality. Love that!
